WASHINGTONIUM, August XVII, MMXXVI — From the marble halls of the Palatium Album, accompanied by imaginary trumpets, golden eagles, and enough imperial grandeur to make ancient Rome file a copyright complaint, came another proclamation from Imperator Donaldus Trumpius Maximus Caesar, Princeps Americae, Custos Terminorum, Restorer of Order, Defender of Tremendousness, and Supreme Commander of Things That Must Be the Greatest Anyone Has Ever Seen.

This time, however, the Imperial Spotlight fell upon a remarkable American institution: the men and women of the National Guard and Reserve — citizens who somehow manage to have one career, one family, one civilian life, and a second job involving uniforms, deployments, emergencies, and considerably fewer opportunities to say:

“Sorry, that doesn’t work with my calendar.”

During National Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Week, Trumpius Caesar saluted these citizen warriors — and, crucially, the employers who keep the civilian world running while their employees temporarily exchange laptops, tractors, classrooms, construction sites, and hospital corridors for military duty.

Welcome to the glorious world of the Legionarius Duplex:

American by birth.

Employee by profession.

Legionary when summoned.

And permanently confusing to whoever manages the company vacation calendar.

The Legion That Was at Work Yesterday

Across the Imperium Americanum, members of the Guard and Reserve live among ordinary citizens because, inconveniently for Hollywood, they actually are ordinary citizens.

They teach children.

They build homes.

They grow food.

They care for the sick.

They operate businesses.

They repair machinery.

They strengthen the economy.

Then suddenly the Nation calls.

A hurricane arrives.

A flood swallows a town.

Wildfires race across the landscape.

A military deployment becomes necessary.

And somewhere an employer receives the administrative equivalent of:

“Ave, Boss. Steve will not be attending Tuesday’s budget meeting. Steve has been summoned by the Republic.”

Steve packs his uniform.

Karen from Accounting opens the staffing spreadsheet.

Both are serving America now.

Just differently.

Trumpius Restores Order — Tremendously

Naturally, no imperial message from Trumpius Caesar would be complete without a ceremonial procession through his favorite territory:

LAW AND ORDER.

Since his return to the presidential throne — constitutionally speaking, the Oval Office — Trumpius declared that he has directed the National Guard to help secure borders, protect communities, and restore order.

In some of America’s most dangerous cities, Guardsmen have been positioned around transit hubs, federal facilities, and public spaces, allowing local authorities to focus more resources on pursuing violent offenders.

And then came the moment every experienced observer of Trumpius had been waiting for.

The Imperial Statistics Scroll was unfurled.

Crime?

DOWN.

Property crime?

DOWN.

Murders?

DOWN.

Carjackings?

VERY DOWN.

Possibly the downest anyone has ever seen.

According to the presidential message, violent crime declined dramatically in 2025, property crime dropped by more than 12 percent from the previous year, and America is heading toward its lowest homicide rate in more than a century.

In the first half of 2026, murders across major cities were said to have fallen 18 percent, while carjackings dropped by nearly half.

Trumpius therefore painted a magnificent portrait of the emerging Pax Trumpiana.

Stores that once closed at sundown now remain open later.

Businesses can fill nighttime shifts.

Families feel safer.

Americans are opening businesses, buying homes, and putting down roots in communities previously considered lost.

Rome had the Pax Romana.

America now apparently has the Pax Trumpiana.

With parking.

The Forgotten Heroes of the Empire: Employers

But Trumpius Caesar did something unusual.

He turned away from the battlefield.

He looked beyond the uniforms.

And he gazed directly into one of civilization’s most dangerous environments:

Human Resources.

Because every Guardsman or Reservist who answers the call leaves behind a civilian workplace.

Somewhere, a manager looks around.

“Where’s Marcus?”

“National Guard.”

“Jessica?”

“Reserve training.”

“Robert?”

“Deployment.”

The manager pauses.

“Who’s covering Thursday?”

Silence.

This is where patriotism meets scheduling software.

From the smallest Taberna Familiae on Main Street to the mightiest Corporatium Maximus, American employers support Guard members and Reservists by preserving jobs, maintaining benefits where applicable, accommodating training and deployment obligations, and welcoming employees home when their missions end.

These are the Patroni Patriotae — the Patriotic Employers.

They do not march beneath golden eagles.

They generally receive no military medals.

Nobody composes heroic orchestral music while they reorganize the Wednesday shift.

Yet without them, the citizen-soldier system becomes considerably harder to sustain.

Trumpius praised these employers for allowing service members to fulfill military obligations without sacrificing the civilian careers they worked hard to build.

And employers receive something valuable in return: workers whose military experience can strengthen leadership, discipline, teamwork, resilience, and technical skills.

Corporate America has spent billions trying to manufacture leadership through seminars.

The Reserve occasionally takes a slightly different approach:

“Congratulations, Lieutenant. You are responsible for these people, this equipment, and completing the mission.”

Suddenly the quarterly PowerPoint on Synergistic Leadership Transformation seems somewhat less intimidating.

Melania Augusta and the Homefront Legion

At the conclusion of the imperial message, Melania Augusta Prima joined Trumpius Caesar in saluting another indispensable force:

Military spouses and families.

They are the unofficial Legio Domestica.

When a Guardsman deploys, someone at home still has to manage school schedules, appointments, bills, children, household emergencies, broken appliances, birthdays, groceries, and that mysterious warning light on the car dashboard that has been glowing since Tuesday.

Military service therefore never belongs exclusively to the person wearing the uniform.

Families carry part of the mission.

Employers carry part of the mission.

Communities carry part of the mission.

And the Guardsman or Reservist carries the part involving considerably heavier luggage.

Together they form the great Trumpian triangle:

Legio. Familia. Patronus.

The service member.

The family.

The employer.

Three pillars supporting America's all-volunteer force.

Ave, Legionarii!

And so Trumpius Caesar concluded with the sort of modest promise for which the Imperial Court has become famous:

America’s communities shall thrive.

America’s Armed Forces shall remain powerful.

And naturally, they shall be the strongest and most respected military forces the world has ever witnessed.

Not merely strong.

Not merely respected.

The strongest.

The most respected.

Because somewhere in the Palatium Album, the word “adequate” was apparently outlawed centuries ago.

The trumpets sounded.

The golden eagles gleamed.

The Imperial Scroll was rolled shut.

The Reservists returned to their civilian lives.

And somewhere in an American office, an HR manager received an email:

Marcus has Guard duty next week.

The manager stared at the staffing schedule.

The Republic had called.

The Legion would answer.

And Susan from Accounting would apparently cover Friday.

Ave, America.

Ave, Legionarii.

Ave, Human Resources.
