ROMA TRUMPIANA, IMPERIUM MAGNIFICUM – Hear ye, senators, legionnaires, screwdrivers, and tax-paying subjects of the greatest empire ever assembled!

His magnificent, incomparable, and possibly electrically powered Majesty, Imperator Donaldus Trumpius Caesar Maximus, Conqueror of Trade Deficits, Supreme Commander of Customs Barriers, and Grand Protector of the Imperial Toaster, has discovered a terrifying new threat to the Empire.

Not enemy armies. Not rebellious provinces. Not even an especially annoying senator.

IT'S THE MACHINES!

Robots! Industrial machinery! Screws! Gears! Suspicious pieces of metal spinning without imperial authorization!

“An absolute DISASTER!” thundered Trumpius Caesar from his gold-plated balcony. “We have the BEST machines in the world! Beautiful machines! HUGE machines! But foreign machines are coming into our country, spinning on OUR floors, and stealing jobs from our GREAT AMERICAN GEARS! TERRIBLE! Nobody has ever seen anything like it!”

The Senate erupted in applause.

Unfortunately, the automatic applause machine was immediately confiscated after officials discovered that it had been manufactured in a foreign province.

Senator Mercatorius Discovers the Great Mechanical Conspiracy

The crisis began when Senator Mercatorius Zollianus, Imperial Secretary of Commerce and Supreme Inspector of Suspicious Imports, delivered a shocking report after months of painstaking investigation.

His conclusion was devastating:

The Empire needs machines.

Even worse, many of those machines come from FOREIGN COUNTRIES!

“Your Tremendous Majesty!” cried Mercatorius, trembling beneath his ceremonial tariff calculator. “Our factories use foreign robots! Our shipyards operate foreign machinery! Even our weapons are manufactured with equipment containing screws that may speak foreign languages!”

Trumpius Caesar turned pale beneath his magnificent imperial tan.

“FOREIGN-SPEAKING SCREWS? IN MY EMPIRE?”

An imperial engineer cautiously explained that screws do not actually speak any language.

He was immediately appointed Special Commissioner for Mechanical Disinformation.

The investigation revealed an even greater horror.

Robots manufacture automobiles, electronic devices, medical equipment, airplanes, and even other robots.

“This is a COMPLETE INVASION!” declared Caesar. “These machines work day and night! No lunch breaks! No vacations! And they don't even have the DECENCY to recognize me as the GREATEST EMPEROR IN HISTORY!”

The Legion of Suspicious Metal Creatures

Particularly alarming to His Majesty was the existence of advanced military robots.

Some walk on four legs.

Others walk on two.

Some even drive themselves around without asking permission.

For Trumpius Caesar, the implications were obvious.

“FOUR LEGS? Sounds like enemy cavalry! TWO LEGS? Probably a disguised senator! SELF-DRIVING VEHICLES? They don't even need an imperial chauffeur! VERY SUSPICIOUS!”

The Imperial Department of Homeland Gloriousness immediately launched an investigation.

A robotic dog was brought into the palace for questioning.

“WHO SENT YOU?” demanded the Chief Praetorian Guard.

The robot blinked.

“AHA! SECRET FOREIGN CODE!”

After several hours of aggressive interrogation, investigators discovered that the machine was merely running low on battery.

The Imperial Press Office announced a historic victory over an international battery conspiracy.

“ANOTHER GREAT WIN!” Caesar declared. “Nobody defeats batteries like I do!”

Operation Tariffus Maximus: Negotiate First, Collect Later!

But Donaldus Trumpius Caesar is no ordinary emperor.

Lesser rulers might modernize factories, expand technical education, secure supply chains, or invest in industrial research.

Trumpius possesses something considerably more magnificent.

THE SACRED GOLDEN TARIFF STAMP!

“We're going to NEGOTIATE!” proclaimed His Majesty. “Fantastic negotiations! The BEST negotiations in human history! And if they don't negotiate, we'll give them TARIFFS! HUGE tariffs! BEAUTIFUL tariffs! Tariffs so tremendous their calculators will CRY!”

Imperial trade envoys were dispatched to negotiate with foreign provinces over the importation of robotics, industrial machinery, and their components.

If diplomacy failed to produce satisfactory results, His Majesty reserved the right to consider additional measures.

Tariffs!

Duties!

Import quotas!

Fees!

And possibly a special tax on unusually suspicious-looking screws.

One brave senator cautiously raised his hand.

“Your Majesty, wouldn't making imported machinery more expensive potentially increase production costs for our own manufacturers?”

Trumpius Caesar smiled with the confidence of a man who had personally invented economics during breakfast.

“NONSENSE! When a robot gets more expensive, it becomes MORE VALUABLE! And when everything becomes more valuable, America becomes RICHER! SIMPLE ECONOMICS! Nobody understands it better than I do!”

The senator immediately requested reassignment to the Imperial Department of Silent Nodding.

His request was approved unanimously.

Made in the Empire: Every Robot Needs an American Birth Certificate

To guarantee industrial independence, the Imperial Court unveiled a revolutionary strategy.

More robots and industrial machines must be manufactured within the Empire itself.

“We're going to build ROBOTS!” Caesar announced. “HUGE robots! PATRIOTIC robots! Robots with AMERICAN gears, AMERICAN screws, and BEAUTIFUL GOLDEN HAIR!”

An imperial engineer presented the prototype.

It wore a golden laurel wreath, possessed a mechanical thumbs-up mechanism, and repeatedly announced:

“TREMENDOUS! AMAZING! BEST ROBOT EVER!”

Unfortunately, it could neither weld nor assemble anything.

It was incapable of operating factory equipment.

It couldn't even tighten a screw.

However, it confidently claimed to have solved every problem in American manufacturing within a single afternoon.

Trumpius was delighted.

“FINALLY! A MACHINE THAT UNDERSTANDS ME!”

The device was officially christened TRUMPINATOR MAGNUS 3000 and declared the greatest technological achievement in imperial history.

Mass production was temporarily postponed.

Several essential components had to be imported.

From foreign countries.

The Imperial Ministry of Optimistic Announcements described this minor complication as a “TREMENDOUS STRATEGIC SUCCESS.”

Imperial Cyber Alert: When the Coffee Machine Becomes a Spy

One aspect of the investigation particularly disturbed His Majesty.

Modern industrial machines often process sensitive information.

And foreign-manufactured equipment could potentially introduce cybersecurity vulnerabilities.

Trumpius immediately recognized the danger.

“I KNEW IT!” he declared. “These machines are collecting information! They know WHAT we build! WHEN we build! They might even know how many GOLDEN TOILETS I OWN!”

The Imperial Ministry of Digital Threats ordered a comprehensive security inspection of every electrical appliance in the palace.

A coffee machine was accused of transmitting classified information to a foreign espresso power.

A printer came under investigation after unexpectedly producing documents in French.

And a robotic vacuum cleaner was detained for repeatedly crossing the highly sensitive international border between the imperial bedroom and the adjoining hallway.

“NATIONAL SECURITY!” thundered Caesar. “If a robot can hide under MY BED, then ANYBODY CAN!”

The vacuum cleaner was eventually released after posting its charging station as collateral.

Its movements remain under close surveillance.

The coffee machine was placed on a restricted beverage-production list.

And the printer was ordered to produce all future documents exclusively in AMERICAN ENGLISH.

The Great Imperial Deadline: 180 Days of Tremendous Patience

In an extraordinary display of imperial generosity, Trumpius Caesar granted his ministers 180 days to report on the progress of international negotiations.

“ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY DAYS!” proclaimed His Majesty. “A BEAUTIFUL NUMBER! A LOT OF DAYS! I could have given them fewer days, but I wanted the world to see how INCREDIBLY PATIENT I AM!”

The trade envoys were instructed to negotiate agreements designed to protect the Empire's industrial and national security interests.

Meanwhile, the Emperor reserved the authority to consider additional measures if negotiations failed, agreements proved ineffective, or new dangers emerged.

The Imperial Administration also began designing a massive program to encourage domestic investment in robotics and industrial machinery.

Its official title:

MACHINA MAGNA TRUMPIANA – EXTERNUS NON GRATUS!

The accompanying policy document contained several hundred pages.

Most were decorated with golden laurel wreaths, enormous imperial seals, and highly flattering portraits of Caesar.

The actual industrial strategy consisted of one sentence:

“MORE AMERICAN ROBOTS. VERY BIG ROBOTS. INCREDIBLY AMERICAN ROBOTS.”

A committee was immediately established to investigate whether the sentence could be made even more tremendous.

The Final Proclamation: Caesar Versus the Screwdriver

At the conclusion of his historic address, Donaldus Trumpius Caesar raised his sacred golden tariff stamp toward the heavens.

His magnificent imperial hair fluttered in the artificially generated breeze.

The senators knelt.

The trumpets sounded.

And His Majesty delivered a proclamation destined to echo through the factories of eternity.

“WE WILL TAKE OUR MACHINES BACK! WE WILL MAKE OUR FACTORIES BIGGER! WE WILL BUILD ROBOTS SO INCREDIBLY GREAT THAT OTHER ROBOTS WILL BE JEALOUS!”

An imperial official timidly asked whether this meant foreign machines would now be prohibited altogether.

“OF COURSE NOT!” Caesar replied. “They can come! But FIRST they have to prove they LOVE AMERICA! And maybe they have to PAY! A LOT! IT'S GOING TO BE BEAUTIFUL!”

Then the Emperor signed his proclamation with a magnificent golden fountain pen.

Behind him, an imported industrial robot began applauding.

The Praetorian Guard immediately drew their swords.

The machine was surrounded, interrogated, and charged with unauthorized foreign enthusiasm.

And so another glorious day came to an end in the Empire of Trumpius Maximum.

An empire where economic prosperity is protected by tariffs, industrial modernization is achieved through proclamations, and national security depends upon the careful surveillance of suspicious household appliances.

For in the glorious realm of Trumpius Caesar, one eternal imperial law shall always prevail:

If you don't work for Caesar, you're suspicious. If you do work for Caesar, you need a permit. And if that permit was imported from a foreign country, YOU WILL PAY A TARIFF!

AVE TRUMPIUS! AVE MACHINA! AVE TARIFFUS MAXIMUS!
