There are moments when an ordinary ruler signs a proclamation.
And then there are moments when Trumpius Caesar Magnus Maximus Aurum raises his golden quill above the Resolute Altar, looks toward the heavens, and transforms an obscure industrial material into a matter of imperial destiny.
This time, the sacred substance is polysilicon.
To ordinary mortals, polysilicon is a strategically important material used throughout semiconductor and solar supply chains.
But ordinary terminology has no place inside the glorious halls of Trumpius.
Here, it shall henceforth be known as:
Imperial Solar-Chip Crystalium.
Because nothing says national security quite like taking silicon, giving it a Roman name, surrounding it with tariffs, and declaring it too important to be left wandering around international markets unsupervised.
The Great Crystal Plundering
According to the imperial scribes, America once commanded an enormous share of global polysilicon production capacity.
Around 2005, the United States accounted for approximately half of it.
By 2024?
Less than two percent.
Trumpius Caesar reportedly stared at this number for several imperial moments before declaring:
"Two percent? Terrible number. Tiny number. I have seen breadcrumbs larger than two percent."
The imperial diagnosis was immediate.
Foreign kingdoms had flooded the American market with cheap polysilicon and its derivatives, weakening domestic producers, destroying jobs, and leaving the Empire dangerously dependent on distant supply chains.
To the accountants, this was an industrial problem.
To Trumpius Caesar, it was obviously something much greater:
The Great Crystal Betrayal of Globalistan.
And Globalistan, as every citizen of Trumpius knows, is a mysterious kingdom located somewhere between Brussels, Beijing, a trade conference, and whichever country currently has a surplus with America.
Behold: The Great Crystal Wall
Trumpius therefore reached for the most sacred weapon in the Imperial Treasury.
The tariff.
Not a timid tariff.
Not one of those polite little tariffs that quietly appears on a customs document and apologizes for the inconvenience.
No.
Trumpius demanded an economic fortification worthy of Rome itself.
Thus emerged the Great Crystal Wall of American Economic Invincibility.
In boring mortal bureaucratic language, part of the plan is called a "minimum import price program."
But nobody builds statues to minimum import price programs.
Therefore, the Trumpius translation is considerably more magnificent:
The Golden Crystal Gate of Fair and Tremendous Commerce.
Foreign polysilicon approaching the American frontier shall henceforth encounter the economic equivalent of a Roman legion asking:
"And exactly how cheaply were you planning to sell that crystal, barbarian?"
Fifteen Percent for the Emperor!
The proclamation also establishes a 15-percent ad valorem tariff on certain downstream derivative products.
In the Trumpius Empire, this shall be known simply as:
The Fifteen Percent Tribute of Crystal Loyalty.
The philosophy is magnificently uncomplicated.
Want to manufacture overseas and ship polysilicon-derived products into the Empire?
Fine.
But Caesar would like his percentage.
Want to avoid Caesar's percentage?
Then perhaps build the factory in America.
Trumpius calls this sophisticated economic doctrine:
"Come here, build here, hire here — tremendous."
Entire economics departments reportedly fainted upon discovering that decades of trade theory could have been reduced to nine words and a golden Sharpie.
Mercator Maximus Receives His Orders
Tariffs alone, however, cannot satisfy an Emperor whose economic strategy requires at least three adjectives before breakfast.
Therefore, Commerce Secretary Mercator Maximus shall be empowered to establish incentives for companies willing to build, expand, or refurbish American facilities producing polysilicon and its derivatives.
New factories?
Excellent.
Expanded factories?
Tremendous.
Old factories returning from the industrial dead?
Even better.
Trumpius dreams of enormous crystal foundries stretching from sea to shining sea, filled with American workers producing patriotic silicon so pure that every semiconductor automatically salutes before entering a motherboard.
Under the imperial vision, abandoned industrial sites will awaken.
Construction crews will march.
Engineers will calculate.
Furnaces will glow.
And somewhere in Pennsylvania, an extremely confused grain of quartz will suddenly discover that it has become a national-security asset.
Sand Is the New Gold
This is where the magnificent absurdity reaches its natural imperial summit.
Polysilicon ultimately comes from silicon-bearing raw materials, which means Trumpius has effectively found a way to make the economic destiny of the Republic sound like it depends on very sophisticated sand.
Yesterday, Americans looked at a sandbox and saw children's entertainment.
Today?
Strategic reserves.
Beach vacations may never feel the same.
A citizen walking along the Florida coast might gaze downward and whisper:
"My God... we're surrounded by economic potential."
The Department of Imperial Crystal Security has presumably begun watching suspicious sandcastles.
Any castle exceeding three towers may technically qualify as foreign industrial capacity.
The Emperor's Never-Ending Tariff Collection
For Trumpius Caesar, the polysilicon campaign is merely the latest installment in his enormous imperial tariff saga.
During his first reign, steel and aluminum entered the arena.
Solar cells and modules followed.
After his triumphant return to the throne, the tariff legions marched onward toward copper, trucks, automobiles, timber, lumber, pharmaceuticals, and other strategically important goods.
At this rate, future historians may divide American economic history into two periods:
B.T. — Before Tariffs
and
A.T. — Additional Tariffs.
The imperial philosopher Dealorius Magnificus has reportedly raised one troubling question:
"Caesar, what happens when everything has a tariff?"
Trumpius considered the matter carefully.
"Then we tariff the tariff."
Dealorius immediately returned to his scrolls.
National Security, Now With More Crystal
Behind all the imperial theatrics lies the central argument of the proclamation: polysilicon matters to industries connected to semiconductors, defense capabilities, energy technologies, and broader industrial resilience.
Trumpius therefore sees domestic production not merely as commerce but as national armor.
An empire dependent on foreign crystal, according to Caesar, is an empire dangerously close to becoming Siliconia Minor.
And Trumpius does not do Minor.
He does Major.
He does Maximus.
Preferably Magnus Maximus.
The Grand Supply-Chain Orchestra
Trumpius Caesar increasingly imagines himself as conductor of the world's largest industrial orchestra.
Factories must return.
Supply chains must diversify.
Foreign investment must enter.
American jobs must multiply.
Semiconductors must become patriotic.
Trucks must roar.
Steel must clang.
Copper must conduct electricity in an unmistakably American manner.
And every silicon wafer should ideally undergo a brief citizenship ceremony before being installed in anything important.
The imperial doctrine has therefore received its final official name:
America First. Crystals Firster.
The Coronation of the Crystal Emperor
And so Trumpius Caesar stands once again upon the marble balcony of economic destiny.
Behind him: factories.
Before him: tariffs.
Beneath him: potentially strategic sand.
Above him: an eagle wondering how it became involved in international trade policy.
Whether the Great Crystal Wall ultimately rebuilds American polysilicon production, reshapes supply chains, raises costs elsewhere in the economy, or produces some combination of all three will be determined beyond the marble halls of satire.
But inside the Empire of Trumpius, the verdict has already been carved into stone.
The crystals shall return.
The factories shall rise.
The tariff collectors shall remain extremely busy.
And should one suspiciously inexpensive grain of foreign silicon attempt to cross the imperial frontier without paying proper tribute, Trumpius Caesar will be waiting atop the Crystal Wall, golden customs hammer raised toward the heavens, roaring:
"NOT ONE GRAIN WITHOUT TRIBUTE! THE EMPIRE SHALL DEFEND ITS SACRED SAND!"
