WASHINGTONIUM — Imperial Palace of Golden Tariffs.

There are moments in the history of great empires when an emperor must act.

Caesar crossed the Rubicon.

Augustus reorganized Rome.

And now Donaldus Maximus Trumpius Caesar Primus, Imperator of the United Provinces of Americum, Defender of the Sacred Dairy Herds and Supreme Guardian of Cheddar, has accomplished something at least equally historic:

He has gone to war with Canadian cheese.

Yes.

Cheese.

After the rebellious northern province of Canadia Septentrionalis apparently continued subjecting American dairy products to those mysterious instruments ordinary mortals call “tariff-rate quota allocation measures,” Trumpius Caesar’s legendary imperial patience finally expired.

The Golden Palace describes these measures somewhat differently:

“A horrible, terrible, probably historically unfair Canadian cheese conspiracy!”

And when Trumpius says historically unfair, historians are strongly advised to begin revising their books.

The Great Dairy Injustice

Already in Julius of the glorious year MMXXVI, Trumpius had imposed additional imperial tribute upon selected Canadian dairy products.

The reason was simple.

According to the Imperial Scrolls of Commerce, Canadia had treated American cheese less favorably than cheese arriving from other foreign realms.

Outrageous!

Under the sacred economic doctrine of Trumpius, there are only three possible forms of international trade:

  1. trade that is fair to Americum;
  2. trade that is unfair to Americum;
  3. trade that Trumpius has not discovered yet.

Naturally, something had to be done.

Three Days of Mercy

In Augustus, the merciful Emperor granted the Canadians an astonishing three entire days of tariff suspension.

Three!

An eternity in Trumpius Time.

Certainly enough time to rewrite a national trade policy, reorganize several ministries, renegotiate dairy regulations, apologize to every American cow personally and perhaps repaint Ottawa in gold.

Canadia initially promised improvement.

Then, according to the Imperial Chronicle, the Canadians reneged upon their commitment and stopped negotiating in the manner expected by the Empire.

Trumpius Caesar was shocked.

His advisers were shocked.

The cows were reportedly inconsolable.

Diplomacy had failed.

Now the cheese would pay.

From Tariffs to Total Cheese Exile

Until now, certain Canadian dairy products could still cross the sacred northern frontier after paying an imperial tribute of 50 percent.

Apparently, even that was insufficient.

Therefore, Trumpius has reached for the ultimate weapon of modern geopolitical dairy warfare:

Certain Canadian products shall no longer enter Americum at all.

Beginning September 29, 2026, at precisely 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time, the imperial gate comes crashing down.

One can already imagine the dramatic scenes at the northern border.

“Anything to declare?”

“Two sweaters, a toothbrush and 28 ounces of Canadian cheese.”

“Sir, step away from the Camembert.”

“But—”

“STEP AWAY FROM THE CAMEMBERT!”

Within seconds, agents of the Custodes Borderius Americanus, commonly known among non-Romans as U.S. Customs and Border Protection, surround the suspicious dairy substance.

Treasury officials arrive.

Commerce officials arrive.

The United States Trade Representative arrives.

Possibly someone brings crackers.

Trumpius Defends the Public From Gouda

The most majestic part of the imperial decree, however, is its justification.

The cheese ban serves the public interest.

In fact, the proclamation invokes the public interest with such enthusiasm that the public may eventually begin wondering exactly what Gouda has been doing behind its back.

The action is consistent with the public interest.

It is required by the public interest.

And it will serve the public interest.

This is an impressive amount of public interest concentrated into one dairy dispute.

The message is therefore clear:

The American people must be protected.

From inflation?

Possibly.

From natural disasters?

Certainly.

From hostile foreign powers?

Eventually.

But first:

Canadian cheese.

And If a Judge Saves the Cheese…

Of course, Trumpius would not be Trumpius if the Imperial Palace had failed to prepare for the possibility that some troublesome judge might suddenly declare:

“Wait! Let the cheese through!”

The proclamation has an answer for that too.

Should the import ban be invalidated entirely or partially for a particular import, the affected goods do not simply return to the warm embrace of international free trade.

Oh, no.

The 50 percent tariff returns.

Immediately.

It is the economic equivalent of a nightclub bouncer saying:

“You cannot enter.”

A judge says:

“Yes, he can.”

And the bouncer replies:

“Fine. Admission is now half your cheese.”

This is not merely trade policy.

This is Trumpius jurisprudence with lactose.

The Empire Has Spoken

Thus concludes another glorious chapter in the reign of Donaldus Maximus Trumpius Caesar Primus, whose geopolitical attention has now reached territories previous emperors were apparently too timid to conquer:

Milk.

Cheese.

Tariff quotas.

And Canada.

Alexander the Great conquered kingdoms.

Caesar conquered Gaul.

Augustus built an empire.

Trumpius modifies tariff classifications.

And somewhere beyond the northern frontier, a wheel of Canadian cheese waits nervously for September 29.

For the Empire has spoken.

The gates shall close.

The tariffs shall rise.

The customs officers shall stand vigilant.

And while Caesar once immortalized himself with the words:

Veni, vidi, vici.

Trumpius Caesar may now offer civilization his own magnificent version:

Veni, vidi, caseum prohibui.

I came.

I saw.

I banned the cheese.
