There are ordinary imperial announcements... and then there are evenings hosted by Trumpius Caesar.

As the sun disappeared behind the golden domes of Washingtonius Maximus, the Emperor entered the Grand Hall wearing an expression usually reserved for conquerors returning with three new provinces and an exceptionally flattering portrait.

Behind him marched an endless procession of servants dragging wagon after wagon filled with enormous sealed scrolls.

"More evidence!" shouted one herald.

"Even more evidence!" replied another.

By the twentieth wagon, nobody bothered counting anymore.

Trumpius Caesar raised his imperial hand.

"Citizens of the Empire," he declared dramatically, "tonight we reveal documents so extraordinary that even the statues have requested front-row seats."

The statues, according to palace officials, remained appropriately stoic—but several appeared noticeably more interested than usual.

Immediately, the Imperial Court erupted into synchronized applause.

Vancius Patrioticus, First Vice Emperor of the Republic Imperialis, proclaimed that election integrity belonged not to one faction but to every loyal citizen of the Empire.

"The glorious SAVE America Lex Maxima," he announced, "must be passed without delay!"

It was the first mention of the legendary law.

It would certainly not be the last.

Moments later, Governor Landrius Louisianus strode confidently onto the marble platform carrying charts, scrolls, maps, and enough statistics to frighten an accountant.

He described foreign kingdoms, mysterious voter lists, ancient cyber invasions, and bureaucratic vaults allegedly filled with forgotten reports.

The audience gasped.

Some because of the claims.

Others because they wondered how many additional scrolls were still waiting outside.

Standing nearby, Financius Bessentius, Keeper of the Imperial Treasury and Guardian of Every Gold Coin Ever Counted, nodded so enthusiastically that several ceremonial medallions nearly escaped his robe.

The spectacle had only begun.

Soon governors, senators, ministers, commentators, former advisers, scholars, retired officials, and professional opinion merchants formed an impressive queue stretching from the Imperial Throne Room well into the eastern courtyard.

Every newcomer delivered essentially the same majestic proclamation:

"I have always said exactly this."

The Imperial historian Thomasius Federcalligraphus Maximus attempted to record every statement.

After three hours he quietly requested four additional scribes.

By midnight he requested twelve more.

Meanwhile Ratcliffius Secretorum, Supreme Keeper of the Imperial Intelligence Scrolls, proudly announced that many classified documents had now been released to the public.

Admittedly, generous portions remained hidden beneath thick black ink.

"Transparency," he explained solemnly, "is a process."

Several scholars admired the pages.

"They're remarkably mysterious," one observed.

"They're also remarkably black," another replied.

Across the chamber, Mullinius Defensor, Guardian of the Imperial Borders, insisted that election security and national security were one and the same.

To reinforce his point, he dramatically pointed at a gigantic wall map so covered with arrows, circles, and warning symbols that nobody could remember what the original map looked like.

Not wishing to be outdone, Rubius Diplomatius, Imperial Master of Foreign Affairs, proclaimed that trust was the true foundation of greatness.

Without trust, he argued, there could be no empire.

Or at least no satisfying press conference.

The Senate soon transformed into what palace observers described as an Olympic competition in legislative enthusiasm.

One senator demanded immediate passage of the SAVE America Lex.

Another demanded it before sunset.

A third suggested passing it before lunch.

One particularly ambitious senator proposed canceling the Imperial Summer Recess until every single scroll had been examined.

The chamber suddenly fell silent.

Apparently everyone agreed on election security.

Vacation security proved considerably more complicated.

Meanwhile, outside the palace gates, ordinary citizens watched the spectacle with increasing fascination.

"How many bombshell revelations can one empire produce?" asked a baker.

"Apparently unlimited," answered the blacksmith.

A merchant scratched his head.

"If every announcement is the biggest revelation in history..."

"...does history eventually run out of bigger revelations?" another wondered.

No philosopher present could provide an answer.

Inside the palace, however, optimism remained undefeated.

Architect Monumentius Archivarius had already unveiled plans for an entirely new imperial complex dedicated exclusively to future disclosures.

The proposed expansion included:

  • The Hall of Eternal Transparency.
  • The Museum of Perpetual Revelations.
  • The Gallery of Historic Bombshells.
  • The Grand Archive of Previously Secret Scrolls.
  • And an emergency warehouse reserved for next week's announcements.

Trumpius Caesar examined the blueprints with obvious satisfaction.

"Excellent," he declared.

"But make the archive twice as large."

The architects exchanged puzzled looks.

"Do you truly expect that many additional documents, Your Majesty?"

Trumpius Caesar smiled confidently.

"My friend..."

"...we're just getting started."

The court applauded once again.

The scribes sighed.

The warehouse managers quietly ordered more shelves.

And somewhere beneath the shining marble halls of Washingtonius Maximus, another sealed crate of mysterious scrolls was almost certainly already waiting for its grand imperial debut.
