Washingtonium, September 2, in the glorious year MMXXVI.
Inside the magnificent halls of the Palatium Album, history once again prepared to kneel before Imperator Donaldus Trumpius Maximus Caesar, who raised the mightiest signing pen in the Western Hemisphere and placed his imperial flourish upon the sacred scroll known to mortals as H.R. 6500.
And thus, America continued.
For a while.
The official name of this legislative monument is the “Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2027.”
At the Court of Trumpius, however, it is better known as:
“The Great Decree for Keeping Everything Running Until We Decide What to Do Later.”
A masterpiece of imperial efficiency.
The Empire Receives More Coins
With one majestic stroke of the presidential quill, Trumpius Caesar ensured that the ministries, departments, agencies, clerks, inspectors, form-stampers, and mysterious federal officials whose exact function has been lost to history may continue operating through December 11, 2026.
Because even the greatest empire the world has ever seen occasionally requires money.
Shocking.
The great Resolutio Continuaria prevents the vast machinery of the American federal realm from suddenly stopping at midnight while legions of bureaucrats close their laptops and announce:
“Sorry. The treasury has expired.”
Government therefore marches onward.
Forms shall be filed.
Applications shall be reviewed.
Documents shall be misplaced.
And eventually, perhaps, located again.
Civilization survives.
Senatorius Budgetus and the Ancient Art of Delay
Of course, the mighty Congressus Americanus Maximus could theoretically pass a complete federal budget.
But why solve today what can be transformed into a magnificent December crisis?
The senators and representatives of the realm have mastered the ancient discipline known among imperial scholars as Procrastinatio Fiscalis Suprema.
First, everyone warns of catastrophe.
Then everyone blames everyone else.
Then television cameras arrive.
Finally, a temporary spending measure is passed so the entire argument can be resumed several weeks later with greater urgency and improved dramatic lighting.
Ancient Rome built aqueducts.
Modern Washington builds continuing resolutions.
Both carry something important from one place to another.
The Imperial Roads Continue to Roll
H.R. 6500 does more than keep the great bureaucracy breathing.
It also extends important surface transportation programs, allowing citizens to continue driving their modern chariots across the imperial roads of America.
This is excellent news for the highways, bridges, transportation departments, truckers, commuters, and anyone who has ever shouted at a pothole.
The roads may continue to exist.
At least until December.
Trumpius himself has long understood that American infrastructure is simultaneously the greatest infrastructure ever built and a total disaster caused by terrible people who clearly needed Trumpius to rescue it.
Only a true emperor can hold both truths at once.
The Veteran Legions Remain Protected
The great scroll also extends programs supporting the veterans of the realm.
This is fortunate, because few things would be less imperial than a veteran approaching a federal office only to be told:
“Thank you for your service, but unfortunately our authorization expired at midnight.”
Thus, veteran-related programs continue under the protective wings of the law.
Even the eternally quarrelsome Senatorius occasionally remembers that certain government functions are meant to function.
A rare but inspiring sight.
The Pen Descends
Then came the moment destined for the marble tablets of history.
Trumpius Caesar sat at the great desk.
Before him rested H.R. 6500.
Around him stood advisers, officials, scribes, photographers, and almost certainly someone whose sole responsibility was to make sure there were enough ceremonial pens.
The emperor examined the scroll.
The scroll, metaphorically speaking, trembled.
Trumpius signed.
And with that flourish, legislation became imperial reality.
The agencies remained funded.
Transportation programs continued.
Veterans programs endured.
The federal government received several more months of financial oxygen.
All safely secured through December 11, 2026.
And after that?
Ah.
Then comes the next magnificent chapter of Fiscalis Dramaticus Americanus.
Because in the Empire of Trumpius there is one eternal law of governance:
Why permanently solve a budget crisis when you can magnificently postpone it?
And so the imperial trumpets sound for H.R. 6500:
The law that does not fund America forever.
But does manage to get everyone fairly close to Christmas.
Ave Trumpius. Ave Budgetus. Ave Decembrium!
