There are rare days when even the golden trumpets of the Palatium Trumpianum play softly.
Days when Donaldus J. Trumpius Maximus Caesar does not announce the greatest wall, the strongest handshake, the finest tie, and the most historic penmanship known to civilization.
National POW/MIA Recognition Day is one of those days.
On September 18, 2026, the Imperium Americanum honors American service members who were prisoners of war and those who remain missing in action.
So Trumpius issued a solemn proclamation — naturally, with enough ceremony to make parchment nervous.
Since the founding of the Republic, he declared, America’s freedom has depended on men and women who served, suffered, were captured, and in many cases never returned.
According to the proclamation, roughly 80,000 American service members remain missing.
Even the Imperial Office of Tremendous Numbers goes quiet at that figure.
Some numbers need no embellishment.
Above the White Palatium flies the black-and-white POW/MIA flag beside the Stars and Stripes, bearing the words:
“You Are Not Forgotten.”

Trumpius also praised the work of the Defensio POW/MIA Accounting Agency, better known outside the Empire as the DPAA. Its mission is to identify missing service members and return them to their families.
The proclamation notes the agency’s 800th identification of remains from the Korean War.

No “Imperator Mundi.”
Almost restrained.
And beneath all the marble, ceremony, and Trumpian gravity, the day carries a simpler meaning.
It is about those who endured captivity.
Those who never came home.
Those whose fate remains unknown.
And the families who still wait.
For one day, Donaldus Trumpius Maximus Caesar is not the center of the story.
Well.
Not entirely.
Because somewhere in the Golden Hall, an aide is probably asking:
“Your Majesty, should we print the proclamation larger?”
And the answer is almost certainly:
“Much larger. Nobody remembers more tremendously than we do.”
