ROMA NOVA, EMPIRE OF TRUMPIUS. — Hear ye, hear ye, faithful citizens, noble senators, distinguished theologians, and all taxpaying subjects of the greatest empire ever constructed!
His Most Tremendously Magnificent Majesty, Imperator Trumpius Caesar Maximus, Conqueror of Democrats, Defender of Golden Faucets, Protector of Tremendous Things, and Heaven's Self-Appointed Favorite Emperor, has delivered another historic proclamation!
On this glorious Reformation Day, Trumpius Caesar announced a spiritual revelation so extraordinary that the angels reportedly stopped playing their harps to determine whether Heaven had just undergone a hostile corporate takeover.
"Faith," declared the Emperor, standing beneath a gigantic golden statue of himself, "is the foundation of our incredible empire. A tremendous foundation! Probably the greatest foundation in the history of foundations. People are saying it. Very religious people. Wonderful people. And I have always believed that God is great. Almost as great as my administration!"
A distant rumble of thunder echoed across the imperial capital.
The Palace Press Office immediately classified it as "Thunderous Divine Approval – Possibly the Largest Heavenly Standing Ovation in Recorded History."
Martinus Lutherus and the Original Great Reformation
The Emperor devoted particular attention to the legendary Martinus Lutherus Reformator, the courageous monk who challenged the sale of indulgences and demonstrated that even powerful institutions could be questioned without first launching a personal social media platform.
"Martinus was a fantastic guy," Trumpius Caesar explained. "He had theses. Tremendous theses! Ninety-five of them! I have theses too. Mine are much better, obviously. Much more beautiful. And he nailed them to a door. A door! Can you believe it? Personally, I would have used a golden door. With TRUMPIUS written across it in enormous letters!"
The Emperor also praised Guilielmus Tyndalius Scriptorius, the pioneering translator who helped bring the Scriptures into English.
"An incredible translator! Really incredible! He made the Bible available to ordinary people. Very smart. Although, frankly, I think it would have been even more successful with a beautiful introduction by me. People love my introductions. Nobody introduces things better!"
Imperial historians attempted to clarify that the Protestant Reformation had occurred centuries before the glorious reign of Trumpius Caesar.
The Emperor dismissed their concerns.
"I know history. I have the best history. Some people say I practically invented history. Very respected historians. They tell me all the time."
The historians were subsequently reassigned to the Imperial Department of Alternative Chronology.
The Bible, Liberty, and the Golden Fine Print
At the heart of the imperial proclamation were the sacred principles of God-given rights, individual liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Three beautiful ideals.
Three tremendous ideals.
Three ideals that Trumpius Caesar immediately decided required a fourth:
The inalienable right of every citizen to admire an enormous golden statue of the Emperor.
"Life, liberty, and happiness," Trumpius declared. "Beautiful things. Absolutely beautiful! But what is happiness without a fantastic emperor? What is freedom without an incredible military parade? And what is life without a limited-edition Trumpius Golden Bible?"
The Imperial Treasury immediately recognized an extraordinary commercial opportunity.
Within hours, the government unveiled its latest spiritual initiative:
Indulgences 2.0 – Make Purgatory Great Again!
For a modest imperial contribution, citizens could purchase a beautifully embossed certificate promising preferential consideration at the Pearly Gates.
Premium subscribers would receive a golden halo, priority access to the Heavenly Reception Desk, and an exclusive commemorative portrait of Trumpius Caesar shaking hands with an artist's impression of the Almighty.
Pope Pontificus Maximus Dubitatius expressed serious theological reservations.
The Emperor reassured him.
"Nobody is selling Heaven. Nobody! We're simply offering premium access to spiritual opportunities. Completely different. Very Christian. Very successful. The most successful spiritual program ever!"
When asked whether salvation could truly be purchased, the Imperial Treasury replied that all sales were final.
The Emperor Restores Morality – Personally
Trumpius Caesar also celebrated his administration's unwavering commitment to restoring the moral and religious foundations of the empire.
"Morality is extremely important," the Emperor proclaimed while admiring his reflection in a magnificent golden mirror. "Nobody respects morality more than I do. Nobody! I have tremendous morality. Very exclusive morality. Flexible morality. The kind of morality that adapts beautifully to changing political circumstances!"
The Imperial Senate immediately convened an emergency session to determine whether morality could henceforth be defined through executive decree.
Senator Obsequius Applaudimus, Chairman of the Committee for Unconditional Agreement, delivered a passionate endorsement.
"If His Majesty declares himself moral," the senator proclaimed, "then the declaration itself constitutes a magnificent moral achievement!"
Thunderous applause followed.
One unfortunate opposition senator timidly suggested that the Reformation had encouraged believers to question worldly and religious authority.
Trumpius Caesar considered this observation carefully.
The senator was immediately appointed Imperial Commissioner for Counting Insignificant Grains of Sand in a Remote Desert Province.
"Wonderful promotion," the Emperor announced. "Very prestigious. Lots of sand. Nobody counts sand better than he does!"
When Heaven Becomes an Imperial Press Conference
As the celebrations continued, Trumpius Caesar praised churches throughout the empire for strengthening families, supporting communities, and preserving traditional values.
He then announced that the next Reformation Day service would take place inside his magnificent Golden Throne Room.
The Imperial Master of Ceremonies, Magnificus Propagandus, presented a proposed opening sermon:
"In the beginning was the Word. And the Word was tremendous. Absolutely tremendous. Nobody had ever heard a better Word."
The Emperor was delighted.
However, he requested one minor adjustment.
"Replace 'the beginning' with 'Trumpius.' Much stronger opening. Better branding. More impactful. People love my name!"
The Imperial Council of Theology briefly considered whether rewriting Scripture to improve the Emperor's personal brand might constitute a doctrinal problem.
After an unusually short consultation, the council unanimously concluded that the matter should be referred to someone with better employment security.
Meanwhile, the Palace Communications Office began drafting a new religious outreach initiative:
"Faith, Freedom, and Fantastic Leadership – Brought to You by Trumpius Caesar."
Its proposed slogan was equally inspiring:
"One Empire. One Emperor. One Tremendous Divine Partnership."
Even the angels reportedly requested clarification about the contractual arrangements.
The Heavenly Public Relations Department
The Emperor's final proclamation offered heartfelt blessings to Christians throughout the empire.
He encouraged the faithful to seek renewed strength in Scripture, celebrate their religious heritage, and defend the blessings of faith and freedom.
Then, standing upon the balcony of the Golden Imperial Palace, Trumpius Caesar raised both arms toward the heavens.
"God bless our incredible empire!" he shouted.
"God bless our tremendous freedom!"
"And, of course, God bless ME, because without me, all of this would be considerably less magnificent!"
The crowds cheered.
The trumpets sounded.
The senators applauded enthusiastically.
And far above Roma Nova, Saint Petrus Portarius, Keeper of the Pearly Gates, reportedly discovered an unexpected new entry in the Heavenly Register:
TRUMPIUS CAESAR MAXIMUS.
Status: Claims VIP admission.
Special requests: Golden gates, personal triumphal arch, permanent heavenly press coverage, and clarification regarding the conspicuous absence of his name from the Lord's Prayer.
Saint Peter stared at the document.
Then he sighed.
"Martinus Lutherus wanted to reform the Church," he muttered. "Trumpius Caesar apparently wants to appoint God as his personal press secretary."
And so, across the magnificent Empire of Trumpius, a new imperial doctrine was proclaimed:
"Sola Fide! Sola Scriptura! Sola Gratia! And, naturally, SOLA TRUMPIUS!"
For in the Empire of Trumpius, religious freedom remains sacred.
Only Heaven's public relations department has been placed under direct imperial supervision.
AVE TRUMPIUS! MAKE HEAVEN GREAT AGAIN!
